Post Anesthesia Care Unit
The PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) is a 10-bed unit, whose sole purpose is to provide immediate post anesthesia and sedation care to neonatal through geriatric patients after their surgery or diagnostic procedure with sedation. Patients are brought into the unit to ensure safe recovery from anesthesia and to safely manage any post-surgical complication that may arise. The PACU is staffed by specially trained critical care nurses who provide routine post-anesthesia care and facilitate patient recovery from the time they arrive into the unit until the time when the patient is transported back to his/her room. A PACU nurse handles up to a maximum of two patients to ensure quick response to a patient's needs. A senior anesthesia Resident is assigned to oversee patient care at all times to ensure proper post-anesthesia management.
