Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
The PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) specializes in offering close observation, telemetry and advanced technological services in the care of all critically ill neonates born outside the Chong Hua Hospital Delivery Room, infants and children suffering from complex neurologic, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal or other single or multi-system disorders and diseases. The unit has five (5) rooms in total, with four (4) private rooms each with its own critical care bed, and one (1) ward room housing two (2) cribs specially for critically ill neonates and infants.
The PICU is equipped with five (5) patient monitors and all six (6) monitors are connected to the Central Monitor located inside the nurses station to ensure continuous monitoring of any abnormalities that may arise. Each bed is also provided with its own piped-in oxygen and suction.
The unit is staffed by specialized pediatric critical care nurses trained in Pediatric Advanced Life Support, S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar & Safe Care . Temperature . Airway . Blood Pressure . Lab Work . Emotional Support), and in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 and a senior Pediatric Resident is on duty 24/7 to ensure a complete, uninterrupted multidisciplinary approach to the care of all admitted patients.
A maximum of only two (2) watchers may stay with the patient in the room.
