Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Level 1- Admits in-house well babies from the Chong Hua Hospital Delivery Room whose mothers are either critically ill or have a health condition that compromises their ability to take care of their child. As per the DOH Rooming-In Protocol, well babies are transported together with their mothers to their room the moment they leave the Delivery Room
Level 2- Admits in-house babies who require intermediate care such as those requiring antibiotic therapy, oxygen or phototherapy
Level 3 - Can admit a total of six (6) in-house critically ill neonates who require intensive care such as preterm infants or term infants with any life-threatening conditions.
The unit also has two (2) isolation rooms for infectious patients and phototherapy room for treatment of babies with jaundice.
The NICU Level 3 comes equipped with 6 state-of-the-art infant Warmers, six (6) patient monitors, six (6) Leddy Bloo portable phototherapy lights, and with each cubicle having its own piped-in oxygen and suction.
The NICU is staffed by critical nurses specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care and trained in S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar & Safe Care . Temperature . Airway . Blood Pressure . Lab Work . Emotional Support) and Neonatal Resuscitation, and by highly experienced Midwives. A 2nd year Pediatric Resident and Senior Pediatric Resident is stationed at the unit 24/7 to ensure proper neonatal intensive management of all the patients.
