The Intermediate Care Unit

The Intermediate Care Unit is a sixteen (16) bed critical care unit that provides close observation and advanced telemetry monitoring to step-down patients from the ICU (Intermediate Care Unit) or patients who require a higher level of care than can be provided in the PCU (Patient Care Unit), but do not meet ICU admission criteria. The unit has one (1) negative pressure room (INT 9) for patients with confirmed airborne infectious disease. Patient population ranges from the adolescent to geriatric population.

The Intermediate Care Unit is equipped with patient monitors that provide continuous monitoring of vital signs, oxygen saturation, and
ECG (ElectroCardioGram). All 16 monitors are connected to the central Monitor in the nurses station to provide constant monitoring of vital signs and unusualities. Each INT (Intermediate Care Unit) room has its own piped in oxygen and suction, and the unit has access to a number of Infusion Pumps for accurate administration of parenteral therapy.
The INT is staffed by highly trained critical care nurses specializing in adult intensive care. All INT nurses are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and handle a maximum of 3 patients at a time to ensure that all patient needs are met. Nursing Aides are also available in each shift to assist the nurses with their tasks, and a Senior Medical Resident is on duty at the area at all times.

A maximum of two Relatives / Watchers may stay with the patient in his/her room to keep him/her company.
